Good
Design
For me, good design is a qualified solution delivered in a limited time frame, which may not be the best one, but will solve the user’s problem while creating a pleasant using experience. Creativity is not like magic; a solution does not come from “a flash of light.” It is derived from a focus on user outcomes, an efficient interdisciplinary collaboration, and the use of corresponding design methods and theories. With these 3 elements, we are able to keep the concept development process on the right track. Then comes the countless questions, tests and iterations. It is my pursuit of quality UX design, design that expresses thoughtfulness and a satisfying experience, that motivates me to work with my users and my clients to achieve their design needs.
Me as
a
designer
My passion for design comes from my desire to help solve people’s problems. For me, it is a way to do my duty for the community and to express my loving care to the world. In parallel, design has helped me expand myself. As a designer, I have learned to observe and question the behaviour of people and various phenomena in society. It broadens my mind by raising my interests in cultures, ethics, psychology and technology.
Competence
Ability to Empathise
Chasing my dream of being an outstanding designer, I have headed over to Germany and Singapore for studying and conducting projects. Through living in societies with different people, different spoken languages, unfamiliar customs and political systems, my horizon has widened. I have learned to understand people better: their values, their behaviours and mentalities. For design, I can now better empathise with my clients’ design needs and wishes, even when they are from many cultural backgrounds.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration Competence
I have conducted 8 projects in teamwork with students from diverse disciplines, such as electrical engineering, computer science and management. I know that it is the collision of different ways of thinking, the collaboration of hybrid skills and working methods, that result in innovative outcomes. I appreciate the value of diversity in a team. My communication and leadership skills are continually improved through the teamwork experience gained.
Ability to Combine Tech and Art
Up-to-date skills and knowledges serve as the catalyst that can accelerate the conception process. I continually try to make good use of them to generate and carry out ideas. Technologies like virtual reality, head-up display, leap motion and new transmission methods, e.g. beacons and LoRaWan, have been integrated and turned into fully feasible solutions in my projects. Most important is that my users and customers regard the results as creative and meaningful.
Project Experience in Different Areas
By conducting projects with stakeholders in various industries, such as Honda and TUMCREATE in automotives, technological solution provider IBM, construction servicer Zeppelin, mechanical producer Franka Emika and various types of start-up companies, I have learned to engage in different fields quickly and figure out the requirements among stakeholders in different contexts.
